hi, first like to say merry christmass to all!
i got a brachypelma smithi ordered fom the spider shop . co.uk, i heard they have nasty bristles, my other two t's never gave me any problem with thier bristles so is thier any thing i need to know? maybe what to do she/he fires them at me? im led to belive thier docile so will she throw hair at me for the sake of it or only if i anoy? i only go in the encloseres when neccicery so hopefully wont anoy her/him to much.

Its basicly telling you to go away and leave it alone
WAtch out if The T turns and start to raise its back legs

if you ware glasses its not such a bad thing

i dont really handle my tarantulas, i have only docile spiecies but borris is too nervous (new river) and would dart from my hands and fluffy ( chilie rose) dosent like me trying to pick her up, so they are look dont touch pets. i would probably have the same rule for the new t when it arrives, i have excama and if the bristles are irratating after handaling it may cause my excama to flaire up. ill watch out for the legs, i only go in the enclosures to tidy away discarded food and water and so on,

smithi and a lot of other new world species flick urticating hairs as a line of defence, and very irritating they are too if you get them in your eyes or skin

If you've got eczema and are sensitive to the hairs anyway, it might be worth wearing cotton or latex gloves when you in there to change the water or pick out food remains. Spiders don't just kick off the hairs in defence, they will lay them down all over their enclosure like a carpet.

shortshanks is delayed due to the snow.... i ordered a cyclosternum fasciatum too( i think i spelled it wright?) both be here when snow clears and temp rises a bit. i keep trying to get decent photos of my little dudes but it not working, borris runs too fast, fluffy loves modeling but cant get good lighting... all you on this site must have taken photography classes without telling me. . . i will carry on trying and will get their pictures up eventually
