  • boehmei (fireleg)

hi there guys im back again after conning the missus to let me have another spider.
its a mexican fireleg and just a bit bigger than a 50p peice at moment just wondered if theres a way to find out how old it might be also what age can you get it sexed at ?

Sexing a tarantula that size is not an easy task also it's never 100% right. I have a B.boehmei a little smaller then a 50p peice, one more molt and he'll be about the same size as yours. Mine is around 9 - 11 months old.

Well, seeing as i bred this species in early 2008 then flooded the UK market with several hundred spiderlings, then there is a chance they're from my stock.

The ones i kept are about £1 size (scrunched inc legs), but i dont feed mine much, to purposely slow-grow them.

Anyway, the ones i bred were from an eggsac laid in march 2008, opened 21-04-08 and first moulted to S1 stage on 02.06.08. I think that is an accurate enough age if there this stock....

A photograph with a scale ruler would help to see age, but i suggest either my stock or less than 3-4 years total. (from hatching not purchase).

As for sexing, i really wouldnt bother trying until the orange colour is relatively strongly defined, and much larger.
