  • Cyriocosmus elegans

Hello BTS members ! This is my first post in the forum , outside of introductions and I am very excited and a little nervous too like the new kid in class LOL . .
Late January I aquired an elegans sling , I had been wanting one for a long time ever since seeing a pic and then reading Mikhail Bagaratov's detailed description of the genus . Even before I was able to find an elegans I became enamoured with the genus and decided I had found my niche in the hobby with dwarfs . I have many rescue animals to care for and know I will never be one to have a great number of tarantulas but I would , over time , like to have a representative collection of these stunning , vibrant little spiders .I would love to read and see more photos of those BTS members who would like to share their experiences keeping Cyriocosmus . Oh its like having a mad crush isnt it?

This is a picture of my C.elegans. I found that this species is a good feeder but not greedy and won't just eat every time you chuck a cricket in with it. Compared to other slings of the same size this psecies is a slower grower or it could be due to the fact that it is a dwarf species and it's actually rather older then my other slings.

Beautiful colours. A jewel in a tarantula collection.

Thank you Ian ! Oh so beautiful ! Mine is shy too - very easily he is startled and I have worried - did he take the pre killed pinhead , or did he become frightened and discard it deep in his borrow to spore mold ? So I have been using drosophilia but I prefer not using a single type of prey . Its been my quandary .
Thank you again for replying - You are the Ian who uses pebbles in your water containers - so do I ! I havent ever heard of anyone else who does , Im always sizing up pebbles

hey Kelly, welcome to the forum!
lovely spiders, sadly i've not got any Cyriocosmus...but i do have some other dwarfish bits and bobs!
i know what you mean about the obsession...you find your favourite genus or group and you just go mad trying to get all you can!
pebbles are a good idea, i've heard of some people using them, and they're a great idea, but i never remember to buy them when i have a chance lol
Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars... Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
