  • Papers connected to the captive breeding of Lampropelma violaceopes

I've been looking around and haven't seen anything about the captive breeding of this species.

I know there were a couple of articles about this species in vol 5 of the journel a while back but not sure if there is anything about breeding them in there.

    Can anyone help?
    Wayne.

There are far more males than females
The females like to reduce the amount of males in the hobby.
The females don't aquire the electric blues til they mature. The MM are slender with a golden yellow/olive green colouring. Older females turn midnight blue.
They like it nice and moist, in a large enclosure, with high humidity, plenty of substrate and sphagnum moss. Put plenty of this in the hide.
Replicate the seasons with wet, dry and back to wet with high temps.

All of that hasnt worked for me

    Have you looked on AsianArboreals?

      Hi pete,

Thanks for the info, I have already re-created or as near as dammit the environmental conditions of the area in malay and singapore they natively occur using the climatic data on the asian arboreals site.

I have a sub adult female a juvenile female and a juvenile male, it seems that there has never been a massive amount of success with captive breeding of these.

Kehl, J. 2008. Zuchterfahrung und kurze Vorstellung von Lampropelma violaceopes ABRAHAM, 1924 synonym Cyriopagopus sp. "blau". ARACHNE 13(4): 14-25.

...might be worth taking a look at as well! Found the title via The Tarantula Bibliography: http://www.exoticfauna.com/tarantula...mpropelma.html

BTW, if you want to look up an article from past BTS Journal issues, click here!

seeing as it's linked to from here, i doubt the mods will mind me posting:

he seems to have been lucky!

Peter, you say older ones are dark blue? maybe THAT'S why my adult female died...she was very dark, maybe she was just old. i was gutted!!!

Very informative article............ with the annual climatic data and the information from Richard and Ray i feel fairly confident in attempting to breed these. My male should mature close to the end of the year and my female will moult shortly after him so fingers crossed i'll have some sucess early next year.

                  Thanks for the info guys.

                    Hi James
It was Ray that mentioned it in this forum

Wayne: Please remember me when the male matures, and if he survives. I'm keen to try again.

                      ah, i guess i'd forgotten!

can you refresh my memory as to the normal lifespan of a female? i'd been told this one was only a few years old... so seemed a bit young to die, really.

no prob, Wayne! there's a lot of good stuff on that forum!
