  • G Rosea unusual behaviour!

    Please help

G Rosea (assumed female) 8cm leg span showing unusual behaviour. Webbing up the sides of her tank and white substance between the glass and her substrate, also dug a burrow, normally quite happy to be on show. Unusually quiet but eating fine. Any help much appreciated. Thank you

Andrea, does the Rosea go onto its back underneath the webbing at all? a photo would help but it does sound as if you have a male who is making sperm webs.

Males make sperm webs when they mature, they just make less as time goes by. Do you see the hooks on its two front legs and/or the emboli on the palps? The emboli should look like small boxing gloves (http://media.photobucket.com/image/G...e-embolus2.jpg). A sperm web will be a small "tunnel" made of very thick, white webbing in places. You can usually tell even after the male has destroyed it by the traces of extremely white webbing trampled into the substrate. If you have a male, they live for varying time limits ive heard of 16 months to 3+ years(rare) after maturity.
