  • G.puchra help please

My sling has totally enclosed herself in. She did this about 3 weeks ago and i thought she was about to molt but nothing. She literally has put substrate all around her hide. How will she be able to eat??

I spray the top every couple of days but i am getting worried now...

You can see all the sub above the corkbark

And the view from above! She is under the bark in a hollow she has made

    This is what they do

She is either going to moult, or she's just not hungry and doesn't want to be bothered. She looks quite fat so she could decide to go a long time without eating - even at that size they can go for months without food and come to no harm. She'll come out again when she's hungry, so don't worry about her. Carry on exactly as you are, and if you want to offer food at all, just take it out again if she doesn't eat.

Do not worry, I never ever see my OBT. It once moulted twice in its burrow and I never knew!!! At least you can still see her through the container so at least that will put your mind at ease to see she is ok.... You just have to keep reminding yourself that the spider knows best and it knows what it's doing..

        Thanks!

I just worry (needlessly!) about them. Hopefully she is just doing extensive premolt. Have had her since the show and she hasn't molted yet and is only teeny, so i just have to wait.

        Thanks again

I know everyone already said its nothing to worry about, but maybe its done it for the increase in humidity a burrow would provide. About a week ago my adult B.emilia's terreraium substrate went bone dry (ive got a really deep mix of coir fibre and vermiculite), and for the first time in a couple of months she dug a burrow again. So ive since mixed it all up with a load of water again and made it very damp, although i think they say for Brackypelma sp. it should be kept more on the arid side, for all the time ive had her this way shes been very happy.

Just thought i would share the idea.

Mandy we all worry that comes with this hobby

As has been said she looks very well looked after so hang in there.

In fact Im in the same situation one adult Acanthoscurria sternalis not eaten since 12/6/10 and sealed in a tunnel under some cork bark.

Lets hope we both have finger nails left before either one pops up onto the surface lol.

              Chris.

I have 2 G.pulchra slings myself Mandy and they too disappeared under substrate for weeks on end. It was only a few weeks ago when I decided to spruce up their living quarters when I found that both of them had moulted, attached is a pic to show the size of the moult. They both came out in their brand new blak suits and have a healthy appetite... Good luck and hopefully you will have a "little black hairy" soon

                  Hi Mandy,
My G.Rosea sling, didn't eat anything for about 4 months, but always had water supply, and i was very concerned about it, but then, everything changed, and now my little Vinnie, had molted twice...i think since a year ago, and is eating about 4-5 pinhead crickets a month, so trust me these little buggers know best!!

                  Ciao!
