  • Can anyone help with sexing my Chile Rose?

Sorry I'm a newbie and don't really know what I'm doing with this forum, so apologies if this is in the wrong place!

I bought my Chile Rose last Aug, and she(?) finally shed for the 1st time since I've had her on March 1st.

I am hoping someone can help me out with sexing him/her please? S/he is called Rosie so I hope it's a female!

I have some pics but I don't have a great camera, and nor do I know where I am supposed to be looking, so I hope these pics are ok!

    All help gratefully received.

(I hope I've added the photos correctly...soon find out!)

Hi Tina, if i squint, i think i can spot the spermathecae, but others may correct me on that.
    but if i'm right, she's a girl.
could you post a pic of her? something about her leg colouring makes me think maybe she's a Grammostola sp "concepcion", which is a similar species in some regards, but rather different colouration. if it is, i am full of envy...i had very bad luck with them!!!

Phew, won't have to change her name and give her a complex afterall!
            Thanks for the replies.

If i squint i can see what looks like girlie bits too....
If you can post a close up picture of the inside of the moults abdomen, in between the "forward" set of book lungs we can tell for sure .......
              This is the area .....

I could see where James was edging towards with the "concepcion" but the carapace isn't showing the "normal" colouration .....it's a Grammostola rosea "RCF" (for now taxonomically), and a nice looker too.

Struggling to get a decent pic I'm afraid....esp with reflection from the flash...but goes blurred without the flash...grrr! Anyway here are a few more...I'm scared I'm going to break the skin. Incidently, what's the best way to preserve/keep the shed skin?

Still looks like there's something there from those pictures, although now we have a size comparrison from your finger the "girlie bits" should be a little more pronounced and visable even in these images.

Preserving the moult is as easy as letting it dry out and keeping it in a tub/container so it won't get broken (they are quite brittle when fully dried off)

Well I shall keep calling her Rosie for now....maybe her next shed will be more obvious..??
Thanks very much for the input.
