  • My Psalmopoeus irminia's two month moult

    Hello people,

I would like for you to give me some advice if you couls please:

I have got an adult female Irminia which s a very beautiful example; but
she is a very odd spider. For two months she never climbed, or never
ate. I can understand the never eating part for a spider that is due to
shed but the not climbing part is odd, no?

I looked into her tank yesterday and saw that she was half on her back
and half on her side; i resumed she was dead given her behaviour latley.
I was very wrong. She has shed her skin and has taken to the trees
    again.....

does anyone know if this is common?

    Kind Regards,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

each spider seems to be different. Many of my spiders exhibit different characterstics despite being the same species.

I keep quite a lot of irminia. Some take to the top of the tank whilst others seem to like to construct a tube web behind the base of the log.
Spiders approaching a moult do act strangely.

They also show strange behaviour just after a moult such as stretching and lieing in strange positions.

It sounds fine, try not to worry too much.

Confirming what Ray says, they are all different spiders. I have a P.Fasciata that loves burrowing under her log, only rarely climbing up to the top for feedings.

And my E.Cyanognathus who is built like an Avic, spent most of its time climbing around, but in the last few days has been off her food, and digging a great big hole in the ground, typical pre-moult i think.

As long as it's feeding, then there isn't any problem.
