    At a guess I'd say Aponopelma, beyond that I can't help, sorry.

          Hello there. I haven't posted the picture on another site. The picture itself has been in many published tarantula books. Thank you for all your help.

            I agree to all, its absolutely Megaphobema mesomelas.
            Mature male, as Stan rightly says.

            They're native to costa rica, and common in the highlands, particularly a tourist area called monteverde where most photos on the web were taken!

              Stuart, I knew where they come from. I was interested in where Zurowski got the photo. Kind of a voyeuristic, "Wish I were there" sort of thing in case it was a photo they'd taken on one of those eco-tours. Maybe someday...
