Thanks for the reply. I've seen NCF refered to as porteri. I hadn't checked The World Spider Catalog, so good to know. If you come across any other info, please give me a shout....
The more I try to look into this, the more confusing it gets. I understand that The World Spider Catalog lists them as two different species, however, I can't find anything that tells me porteri is, rosea NCF. Is there any info that relates specifically to this? Some of the info I've been looking at suggests that traders changed the species name, to differentiate between their sales.
This topic also interests me, Id also like to read the paper where Grammostola rosea NCF is synonymised with Grammostola porteri, has anyone got a copy?
I knew of a couple of traders in the distant past who would sell freshley moulted specimens as cala and the others as spatulata, before they became synonymous.
As far as I know the rosea type is missing, and not sure about the porteri type, but many of Mello-Leitao's types are also missing, until a revision of the genus is done who knows?
this question is a good question. I only know...in the past most of these spiders were sold as G. rosea because of the red colour and the other colour-types (brown, grey, silver...) as G. porteri. Ray Gabriel described it very good. At this time...we have to wait until a revision.
I was told once that porteri was bigger and calmer then the rosea.
I got a female porteri from a German seller at a SEAS show and she is so relaxed .. She is a grey/brown and nothing like the rosea I've seen.
