  • Adult enclosure for Avic Versicolor help please.

Hello.Just a quick one.I just wondered if you could tell where I could buy an adult size enclosure for my a versicolor?Or,if you could suggest somewhere I could buy a decent, suitably sized tub that I can adapt myself? She's around 4 cm now,and I believe this particular species don't appreciate having to keep re webbing their homes?Thank you for your time, and,as always,it is greatly appreciated.Cheers ! PS : I've looked in Wilkinsons,Poundshop etc,but can't find anything, and just thought I'd mention that I keep all my Ts in a stat controlled viv if that helps.Thank you

As far as I know, no one makes caging specifically for Avicularia. We usually subvert something else that will do the job. My preference is a 2-1/2 to 15 gallon aquarium turned on its end. You can use just about any sized aquarium because arboreal tarantulas aren't constrained by cage height like most terrestrial tarantulas. (Click or right-click the thumbnails to see larger images.

The cage cover has been removed so you can easily see inside.

Many enthusiasts like to keep some sort of substrate in their Avicularia's cages to make it look nicer. This diagram shows you how to Silastic a small piece of glass or plastic in front to keep the substrate from falling out onto the floor.

This may also be of interest to you. Avicularia urticans care.

Enjoy your little 8-legged tree hugger!

Depends on how much you want to spend.

For small species like avic's, I use 5L sweet jars >>> LINK showing avic jar <<<

If you have money to spare, some people like the 'House of spiders' purpose built enclosures . . . . http://shop.houseofspiders.co.uk/Enclosures

You can also get a glass tanks custom made at any decent aquarium shop.
Just make sure that you get your size and design right and make sure that the tank builder sticks to your design and not his !

I had some glass tanks made last year for my larger species and finally planted them a few weeks ago >>> LINK<<<
Some people like to give larger tanks to smaller species and this size tank would be ideal as they are small enough that they can be placed almost anywhere but large enough that the spider can run around if it wants to.

Custom Aquaria do excellent arborial tanks at very reasonable prices. They're usually at the BTS show.
