  • Sending exuvium for ID? Who?

    Hi everyone

I have been posting left right and centre trying to find someone to help me get an ID on the spider pictured in my thread below (E. sp Green/Blue thread). I had someone offer to take the exuvium to the BTS show but she didn't moult in time and now I don't know who to ask. Can anyone here ID from an exuvium?

    Many thanks

    Kathy

. . . . and you know with 100% certainty that your tarantula is correctly identified ?

Kathy, I would ask Ray Gabriel if he could ID the exuvium for you. If he cant, he could probably recommend someone who is up to date with this genus.

Without sounding argumentative, who is this person who ID'ed your spider ?

hobbyist ? importer ? commercial breeder ? museum curator ? taxonomist specialising in arachnids ? (like Ray Gabriel) or just someone who thinks that they know what it is ?

Hi Kathy and cheers for the recomendations Pete

Well all i can say for certain at present is that it is not E. pulcherimaklaasi (i have a paper in prep regading this sp if all goes well 2014 publication) which is probably one of the IDs given. Is it Euathlus? possibly. I know a good friend has been working on this group and a paper due soon. Yes i can ID some things from skins but in this case not until the above paper is published which i think is also a review of the genus.

Kathy I need a good pic of a female showing the purple on the dorsal femurs if you have one for my above mentioned paper.

Sorry I cannot be much more help

            Ray

              Hi,

It is me he was referring to, I am only a hobbyist, and I only gave my opinion to what I thought it could be as it was an unknown at the time and he bought it to me to have a look. I then recommended he came on here and speak to the experts in the field and find out who could offer him advice on how to correctly ID it.
