  • Some new eggsacs and spiderlings!

Forgot to pull these before they emerged: Holothele sp. "tachira"

So not to miss it again, I pulled this girls eggsac before they emerged. I have never had a species fight me as much as this girl when I took her eggsac:

    Theraphosa stirmi:

Look closely and you can see the one lucky 1st instar hanging out amongst a sea of infertile eggs.

    Avicularia metallica

Poor pic, but wanted to show the size

    Pelinubius muticus

    Love the P.muticus picture.

What conditioning did you do for the stirmi?

I haven't done anything special for any of the T. stirmi. First eggsac was produced by a fresh molted (within 3 months) female and a fresh male. That one had 107 spiderlings in there. The last two eggsacs have had low numbers and I'm starting to see a trend with older males being associated with less successful eggsacs. That is across all species and not just T. stirmi.
