  • G.Rosea Babies!

Hey guys, after following your previous advice I left the sac with my female. After 31 days I removed the sac and looked inside, alas only to find eggs. I then placed the sac in an incubator set up and 1 day (!!!) later i've got eggs with legs!

    Really excited!
    Regards,

            Congratulations MrWhite,

Looking forward to seeing more pictures as they develop

Have you attempted counting them yet? Rough estimate?

I'm guessing at between 150 and 200. My god, what will I do with them all...
Anyone have an idea as to how long before they'll have moulted into spiderlings?

Well, a few, anyway. And film pots could come in useful in a couple of weeks.

Indeed Warren! I've got 50 film pots right now, with more to come! Also collecting baby food jars from a friend at work. I'll let you know when they are ready for sale then

Ask your local supermarket ( I use Tesco for obvious reasons.lol) they will give them to you free from their photo dept, I have 2 big boxes awaiting my expected slings.
Let me know when they are being sold please, I'll relieve you of a few.

Ah, good idea Mary. I've been getting them from a photography shop in my local town but they don't seem too reliable at saving them. I'll give ASDA a try.

I once asked for some from Boots, and I was told they couldn't give the tubs away for keeping cosmetics in. It can cause nasty reactions in some skin types, apparently.
Strange that slings wouldn't be affected; though after that visit to Boots I'd probably wash film tubs, to be on the safe side.

Maybe it's something to do with tub + cosmetic. Like in the Batman movie. :P

8 days after being introduced to the incubator, they've gotten bigger still!

                            rosea sac

This species is not bred that often in captivity. Was it a wild-caught female which produced the sac?

You might like to note down the development times with a view to producing a short BTS Journal article It's always good to get this information published for future reference

                            Cheers,
                            Richard

                              Richard,
It was indeed a wild caught female.
I've been noting down the dates of any major changes. But i've no idea as to the correct terms for the different stages of tarantula development. I'm pretty sure that these have molted twice since the legs appeared. There are tiny white (what I assume) exuviums(sp?) and also some larger slightly orange ones (see the picture I posted above).
Would appreciate someone giving me a quick run down on T development.
                              Thanks,
                              Adam
