    Hi everyone,

I hope everyones had a good Christmas and a happy new year. Cor blimey guv and strike a light it's been a while since I've been on here, everything looks all modified and pretty, well done Mark and fellow admin!

Here's an experiment with high dynamic range, Flash has just moulted three days ago and is still hardening her new clothes, so I took advantage of this and tried a HDR image, turned out quite nice I think apart form the murk on the enclosure.

    Uncropped

    All the best.

      Hey Tom,

is this High Dynamic Range what we "old" folks call Depth of Field.

      Good shot mate.

      Colin

p.s. did you get the email at Xmas or was this another that my server decided to send off to Neptune or somewhere?

        Hi Col,

Thanks for the kind words mate, I got your mail and the more recent one too thanks. Have you had the time to have a gander at the new and improved pages? I'm having some code problems here and there but all will ironed out eventually.

H.D.R or High Dynamic Range involves the merging of multiple exposures to create one final image, one exposure at -2, 0 and then +2.
To be honest the shots above aren't too processed, I have some examples of more 'cooked' images on my hdr page on my website.

Oh yeah, I need to bend your ear of expertise at some point, I'll send you a photo of my spider in it's current tank, I feel it may be a little too small now that he/she is much bigger, p'raps you can advise.
I'll send the photo tomorrow probably.

Anyhoo, here's another experimental one today with different lighting.

          he he, just teasing ya.

Have you tried composing the images digitally as layers and shifting the colour balance on a couple, off set (one green and one red) a few pixels at about 30 (ish) degrees and merge layers. try the image out with some 3D glasses, you can get some real interesting effects.

Good stuff though, just been on your site again, are you getting commisioned to do the figure skating yet?

Indeed I am Sir and with a magazine to boot! The best assignments I've had since I moved here! I've got another one next Saturday too, if I could just get some more often then things would be a little less stressful!

                    Hi Chris,

I'm not entirely sure I know what you mean, I apologize if I'm on the wrong track, but no, the plan wasn't to have everything in focus.
Sometimes when using a narrow aperture like say f/16 and everything is more or less in focus, the image can look very flat and very boring.
Some general tips that you will find most on the net regarding macro and invertebrate photography will involve having your point of focus on the subjects eye.
Am I anywhere close to what you meant?

                    All the best

                    T.

but somes i get comments when i focus on the eyes ,like you need to see all the subject in focus, but that not poss at ap 2.8

No worries mate, the main purpose to a HDR is to combine the exposures, ideally to achieve the 'perfect' exposure, some folk really really hate HDR, I myself am a fan but in moderation.

Really nice photo's Chris, you have a very impressive collection! As for comments, I think they are sharp, colourful and exposed very well!
                        Respect.
