  • A relatively good photo-shoot of Ruby

Whilst having a clear-up yesterday I managed to get some good(ish) shots of Ruby my little G. rosea. It took a bit a fiddling with the camera settings but here are the results.

Then to avoid my ever busy camera, she decided to 'head for the hills' which ironically gave me some of my best shots:

There we go, some success I think. It was nice to get some shots now that she has moulted and is still looking quite fluffy.

it's strange how the grammastola is the most common Tarantula but I have not seen pictures this good and detailed taken of one before.

      Nice 1.

      You use 2 heatmats?

Thanks for that, I was quite pleased having only got grainy shots before. I was particularly pleased with the 'webbing' one and that was purely by accident I just happend to 'click' twice in quick succession as I thought she was walking away.

two heat mats - yes, I know it might seem a little extreme, I have a very drafty house! I originally set up with just the smaller one but it was a bit chilly and she would stay permanently adhered to it, so I bought the larger one and added the polystyrene and she bucked up after that! I only put the larger one on during the day to allow a bit of temperature differentiation, when it warms up I will turn it off full time and alternate with the smaller one until the summer. According to the thermometer the max temp I have achieved is 75 even with both of them!

Wow! what a lovely rose carapace.
Is that a little stone in your water bowl?

hmmm, just a little one! Actually, I recently purchased The Tarantula Keeper's Guide, Stan and Margurite Schultz and was reading it on the bus, I am now considering replacing it with a smaller one to allow Ruby to do the whole 'immersion' thing, although she seems well watered enough so she must manage lol!

She is much roseier since the moult, she was more chocolate brown berfore with a pink margin, the colour really developed in the days after she had moulted - no mistaking her now!
