                MERIDIONALIS?

Hi there, you have some great T's. I wish I knew how to put photo's of our lot on here, we have some corkers!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, back to the reason that I replied to your post, you show a P. Meridionalis pic, mine is nothing like it, not so hairy as yours, could it be something else? I bought it as a grey baboon, no proper name, any ideas please.

                  Hi Mary
If he got the C.meridionalis (its a Ceratogyrus not a Pterinochilus) from Phil then you can be quite sure its the real deal.I know that Phil did a great article in the BTS journal conserning the breeding of the species and how to tell them apart from P.chordatus. The one in Gs pic looks to be still a spiderling so that might be why it looks so different from yours if yours is an adult.
                  Regards
                  Chris

P.S. Should I be worried in any way by your signature......spider woman @ tesco's ?

iT'S JUST THAT I WORK AT OUR LOCAL TESCO WAREHOUSE, IN THE CANTEEN AND THE WORKFORCE CALL ME SPIDERWOMAN, CAN'T THINK WHY, I'VE ONLY GOT AROUND 400 AT THE MOMENT. I TRIED TO FIND OUT FROM MY BOOKS WHAT THE SPIDER WAS, MERIDIONALIS WAS WHAT IT WAS CALLED IN ONE, BUT I BOUGHT IT AS A GREY BABOON, IT IS AROUND 2.5INCH LEG SPAN BUT LESS HAIRY, BY THE WAY, DO YOU KNOW THE SCIENTIFIC NAME FOR A RED TRAPDOOR SPIDER PLEASE?

sorry not a clue there are loads of red trap door species I would think.
Maybe Ctenizidae sp. or Stasimopus sp.? there are most likely lots of others to chose from.

                        Hi
I am curious as to your C.meridionalis ("grey baboon") as stated above i have recently bred C.meridionalis and recorded my breeding data for this species, published in BTS journal Volume 19 No 4, or the online version of the breeding article can be found here http://www.thetarantulastoreforum.co...?showtopic=398 in the article i have tried to clearly show the difference between P.chordatus and C.meridionalis which are often confused by some online dealers and pet shops
                        regards

                            Grey Baboons

                            Hi Phil,
Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. This is the problem with buying from local outlets that don't specialise isn't it? I do like to record my T's by their proper names, not common ones, they could be anything. I bought 3 spiderlings from the same place that they didn't know what they were, they look like baboons of some type, grey with whiskery legs and similar markings to my starbursts, maculata and murinus rcf. I will dig out the journal if I have it and take a look, thanks.
                            Regards Mary.
