Spiders in Borneo, August 2007

This pictures were taken this summer across Malaysia, Borneo, from Sarawak to East Sabah. Most of the spiders were seen on night walk, just a selection :


Having a lunch...

Heteropoda sp., female.

Heteropoda sp., another male. Only seen on the rainless nights.

And finally... tarantulas...


Forest burrow, freshly closed with silk.


Another place, another burrow.


Arboreal spiderling. In this location, there was a spiderling in almost every tree hole, but I could'nt take a photograph of an adult.


Cyriopagopus sp. (Gandalf bridge or...), with an advanced spiderling on the left. A rainy night...

Apologies in advance if I am mistaken, but that last photo doesn't look like the Gandalf's Bridge Cyriopagopus................. in fact (I have to ask), is this an original photo you took, or a digital photo of another photo - or something similar???

Like I said, apologies if I am way off the mark on this - just curious!!

This is an original photo which was croped and resized to fit with the forums sizes.
It was taken at night with zoom and flash, because the tarantula was far from me on the tree (around 4 meters high).
A friend of mine showed the picture to JM VERDEZ, he told him it could be Cyriopagopus sp. Gandalf's bridge, but "it could" only... It was really huge !

Thats not the sp gandalfs bridge, that is a sp from Sabah.

If this latest breeding goes well there should be a few sp Gandalfs bridge for sale at proper prices... so fingers crossed.

you've just made a good day even better! I see what you mean about the sp. sabah, its body is much darker than sp. 'Gandalf's Bridge'. Good luck with the breeding!
