  • Spiderlings :: Mexican :: Chilean Rose :: Curly

    Hi Spider lovers.

I've put together a couple of spider blogs to help people who have got some spiderlings and are wondering what's going on and if they are doing the right thing.

There's some ace piccies of the little fella too for those who have already grown spids.

    They are are:

Mexican red knee spiderlings also know as brachypelma smithi
    http://www.mbldezine.com/spiderlings/index.php

Curly Hair spiderlings also know as Brachypelma Albopilosa
    http://www.mbldezine.com/curlyspiderling/

Chilean Rose spiderlings also know as Grammostola Rosea
    http://www.mbldezine.com/chileanspiderling/

I hope these help as I've has a lot of support from people in the past all over the place and thought I'd put a little something back.

    Feedback welcomed.

    Kind Regards,
    Bob.

    Spiderlings...

Those are great little Blogs there Bob. I've been through them and had a look at all the photos. It's mad the way the Chilean Rose runs about when you blow on her.

    Take it easy,
    Ben.

      Blogs

      Hi John & Ben,

      How's it going?

Yer - they take up quite a lot of my time (when I should be working) as I update them as often as anything happens such as feeding or shedding or just spotting weird things the spid does.

Looking forward to transfering the little fellas into a bigger house. There's been a couple of near misses were the spid has nearly jumped out trying to get an extra bouncy cricket!!!

      Bob.

        Spiderling Update

        Hi there,

I've updated one of my blogs with a mini video of my spiderling. Might be handy for chaps new to spiderling to have a look at?!

        Let me know your thoughts.

        Bob.

          Hey Bob

Great to get the info on your blog! I, too, have just bought a Grammostola Rosea 'ling and it's really nice to have a similar point of reference. Is your Rosea still on Pinhead crickets?

            Hi Paul,

            How's it going?

Spiderlings are growning and I've upgraded their tanks! Check out the blog!

I was really careful at first feeding my spids small crickets - but then I came to the conclusion that these little fellas had been about for millions of years and could probably either work out if something was too big to attack or if they did go for something large then they'd give up if it was struggling too much. I also figured that the crickets have no real means of defense... sooo I started to feed them bigger and bigger crickets - ones which were quite large.

They spiderlings seemed to relish the challenge and never let one go no matter how big it was. Even now the Rose spiderling will happily attack anything which touched the fine layer of web in her tank. It even attacked a piece of pasta which I used the other day.

            Kind Regards,
            Bob.

              More Blogging!

              Hey Bob,

Like the new blog updates! Thought the way you'd divided the tank in two was ace - and the way you've shown how you did it online too!

Do you get many people contacting you about your spiderlings?

              Kind Regards,
              Ben.

                Hi Ben,

I get loads of people emailing me about the blog - that's one of the reasons I do it really. I think that the promotion of spider keeping is important (okay so not as important as house prices, or peace in the Middle East), but there's a lot of negative press and thoughts about spiders and people who keep them.

Some of the looks I get when I say I've got a pet spid. They look as though I've just called them something horrible. What they don't seem to think about is quite how ideal a pet spid is when you're living a busy life.

I went on holiday last week and the spids didn't need putting into kennels or they'd miss me. They had a cricket or two before I left and then did what they do best. Sit and wait. Brilliant.

Hope you and everyone else continues to enjoy the blog!
                Bob.

                  Negative Thoughts

You're so right Bob - people are always negative about spider keepers. Lucky you didn't tell the people in the office when you got your spiderlings! I'm guessing they wouldn't be happy if they knew they were handling spiders.

Have you secured the lid with anything on the new spider house? I was just thinking now they're bigger could they push the lid off?

                  Ben.

                    GOOD QUESTION

That's a damn good question... The best I've achieved so far is putting a mug on the top. I'm hoping they're not strong enough to push that off.

Then again - it's a funny thing thinking about it. The Rose Spiderling hasn't climbed up to the very top to my knowledge. Always seems to get three quarters of the way up and then chills out.

                    Bob.

                          Spider Blogs

                          Hi Ray and Daniel,

                          How's it going?

Glad you like the blogs - tell me more about the journal, what is it, when does it go out etc (or if there is a handy link explaining this, that'd be just as good). I haven't been posting very long on the forum but would be happy to contribute.

Daniel - I've got a lot out the blogs, I hope they come in handy! If there's anything you want to ask me feel free - or something you want me to include let me know.

                          Kind Regards,
                          Bob.

                            Journal

Not too sure what the Journal is either - but there's a link to some stuff about it: http://thebts.co.uk/forum/viewtopic....9e09ec964fd749.

What's the Journal all about? Anyone shed any light on it....?

                            Ben
