I seem to have asked alot of questions recently and am grateful for everyones help, I have now purchased another tank for my pink toed T it is a normal tank turned on its end, I was wondering where I should stick the heat mat on this tank, there will be 3-4 inches of vermiculite and the tank is a further 14 inches so the T will be at the top of the tank????

Hi Simon, I would personally go with what you've lready said & stick the mat to one of the verticl edges of your tank, either the back or one side whichever is easiest for you.
I would also cover the mat with a layer of polystyrene to prevent heat loss through the back of the mat & it is always recommended to control the mat with a thermostat to prevent overheating.

I've always put a polystyrene sheet over the outside, never cracked a tank yet.
I've just done exactly the same thing for my pink toe, i'll post some pics later on when i've moved her over into it

Its only a thought but it would look even nicer with a plant in. ( plastic is what i use ) it just adds that ''tropical'' feel to the tank 
And at least with plasic you dont have to worry about watering it as well!! :P

The wood is bogwood, very dense and hard, it's normally used in fishtanks and as a fishkeeper as well i've loads of bits kicking round.
These hexagonal tanks come up a lot on ebay, that's where this one came from, i've a second identicle one ready to modify the same as this one.DaveComment
