      Colin,

Avatar pic shows yours truly holding 'Fitz' my redtail hawk. Great hunter but a little wacky, 'Fitz' that is. Ornery too, that's why I named him after my father-in-law, John Fitzgerald <G>
Hope we're not in too much trouble for delving in an off subject here.

        setting up tarantula housing

        Hi everyone,
Just a little footnote to the spider picture Barbara, if you want the agressive spid on the poster then replace it with a picture of a snake and make him think its the tarantula or a royal python. That should work. Bill, any advice you need on setting up a tarantula enclosure you can get here but with you being based in America it might be helpful for you to contact Todd Gearheart at www.tarantulaspiders.com or Mike jacobi at e-mail 'exoticfauna@gmail.com'
They might be able to guide you where to get all the equipment you need, or even supply it to you themselves. Good luck!
sigpicHate is for people who find thinking a little too complicated!

Bill, if we can have football related posts occasionally i'm sure Mark (the web policeman) will let us off this one (it is after all an animal)

          Thanks for the reply.....

Have you decided on what tarantula to get yet, or are you like the rest of us and have a final, final, final chopped down list of about 30

            Hello Scott,

Checked out 'The Spidershop' sites you so kindly mentioned. Thanks. I notice they offer a padlock...hmmm. Although I do have my african grey's cage padlocked so he doesn't break out anymore. His name is Onslow. Named after the great, loveable but messy character in 'Keeping Up Appearances'. Oops, off subject again.

              Colin,

I've not decided on what tarantula to get, however there is a short list of recommended T's for beginners two being B. Smithi and G. rosea. I have seen a number of T's px and really like the blues but they may not be right for me or any beginner for that matter. I'd also like to see some and not just px. The first and only T I've experienced was while my wife and I were on St. John's, U.S.V.I. a few yrs ago. It was on a lit sidewalk late at night...what a beauty. I've always been fascinated with spiders and protected them but that T really piqued my interest and now I'm taking the time to do something about it.
Sorry for being so long winded, but thx for the ques.

              Cheers,
              Bill

Dont worry about lengthy posts, there's some on here that you could make into a mini series (with the difference being the posts on here are entertaining and informative, unlike mini series )

I have padlocks on mine too. My grandaughter likes to sit and stare at my T's when I'm not in the room. She would have the doors open and be feeding them otherwise.

                      Regards.

                        Oh, so close!

                        Hello All,

Well, I visited my first reptile store today which has a sizeable display of many reptiles but only a few T's. I asked an employee if they had more T's, his response, 'Do we!" Went behind the scenes where they have many different kinds of T's...I was like a 'skinny rat in a cheese factory'. After about 5 mins of drooling I handled a B. emilia; what a little beauty. Bottom line? It was very difficult leaving there without a T. I'll bet many of you folks have felt the same way.

                        Cheers,
                        Bill

                          Yep Bill.
Had the very same feeling last Sunday at the BTS Show. The only thing that annoyed me about it was I didn't take enough money with me. I could have spent all day spending my time spending. "Skinny rat in a cheese factory". Like it.

                          Regards.

                              Hi Scott.
You Know that won't happen, more than likely your mate will end up buying one as well. Then you'll buy another. Then he'll buy another and so on and so on.

                              Regards.
