lol...actually Toran, in the 5 years i've been here, it's been mostly sunny! at least in London, the weather stereotype doesn't hold. was very surprised by that!

interesting to hear about those communal set-ups. maybe one day i'll experiment, but at the moment i think being careful is the best option

if i get a DWA licence, it'll be specifically so i can get Lychas asper!! beautiful species.

I love the Lychas specie I only had one problem with them in my communal tank for some weird reason the males pinchers always went missing could figure it out

Colin just reminded me of this great thread, so thought i'd resurrect it.
i am about to try Scorpio maurus palmatus and Pandinus cavimanus communally myself.

i will do it with a great amount of care, however, taking into account the advice here. Toran has had great success so will endeavour to emulate it (and may bug him from time to time)

one of my reasons for trying this out is due to my current P cavimanus ignoring food. he is getting slim, so i am starting to worry (not 100% sure on the sex, but think it's male).
a community set up is just one of the factors i've not tried yet, and will probably be the last if deeper substrate and a higher temperature/humidity balance doesn't solve the problem.
i'm going to do it with caution (with both species) as i am interested in communal behaviour.

for another species i heard might be communal, i tried Bothriurus keyserlingi, but they fought. it could be they'd have settled their differences, but i decided it wasn't worth the risk, and now one has sadly died a few weeks later, so i'd have to buy more to try it again. also, i am unsure of their gender, so that might've been a factor.

well either it was too late for the cavimanus or the communal plan was a bad idea.
the older scorpion died, probably in the last 24 hours i do think it was either age or lack of feeding that did it, rather than an attack, however.
very sad that nothing i tried worked, but maybe that's just how things go.
one thing i'll say about the communal keeping of cavimanus is that so far they all seemed to favour different areas in the enclosure. this may be down to them only just settling in, or due to me putting them into different spots to start with, but the fact they're not huddling together like imperators do may result in me splitting the remaining two up.

the Scorpio maurus palmatus are apparently fine, though i can only see two of the three. but it's likely the third just buried itself.
i will have to change the substrate eventually as it's rubbish for burrowing.
though in retrospect, my first of this sp burrowed, then ignored the burrow and sat on the highest point!

well the Scorpio maurus palmatus idea was a dismal failure.
two died, one in a burrow and intact, so possibly age...the other in pieces due to a fight.
there was food present and plenty of places to hide, so they must've had irreconcilable differences.
that's the end of my communal experiments with this species, unless someone can convince me otherwise. i'm a bit too gutted at this stage to consider doing it again.
