Yvonne, that's great, i'll see you at the other shows! i'm glad Mick is getting more interested as well. nice to share a hobby/addiction!
Martin might have more spitting spiders, so it's worth a look.
i don't know much about Grammostola sp North, but i'm sure it's a nice species, like most of the others
glad your spiders are doing well...i'm also having loads of success with mine, touch wood enjoying every minute of looking after them and learning more.#

Andrew, sorry off hand i don't know the details for Newark, but can try to look for them! it's not a big show by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a fun time, mainly because i met loads of people there. also, the selection was pretty good for a smaller show.

Well done James. I don't know much about scorps unfortunately but the T. pruriens is a lovely spider. Can be a bit shy sometimes.

lol i know, eh Richard? for now, i'm content...a few more scorps for greed's sake maybe, and a few more T's on the wishlist...might actually be able to avoid spending loads at the upcoming shows (yeah flipping right!!! LOL as if i can resist)

Yvonne, they're a very strange animal! i'd suggest a google search for velvet worm images for starters. they look like caterpillars with antennae, and some have lovely colouring (mine do!)
apparently they are in their own Phylum, as they really don't fit in with arthropods or worms.
their brains are apparently quite spiderlike.
in the wild, they have been observed in groups, defending territory, hunting, etc, as well as group feeding (though no idea if they also hunt in groups). their mating is strange, as the sperm packet from the male gets absorbed into the skin of the female.
they shoot a sort of glue like substance from their antennae (i believe), which incapacitates prey.
they show up in various places in the world, but i believe mine are from New Zealand. the largest grow to 8 inches. my biggest is probably just over two, stretched out (makes them hard to measure!)

a couple of their other names are walking worms or spitting worms.
the taxonomical Phylum name is Onychophora.

they are ridiculously cute little things!

i shall attempt to document my time with them with notes and hopefully pictures.

EDIT: Yvonne the dealer (Martin Goss) had the scientific name on his site, so i did a quick Google search and found this: http://www.ryanphotographic.com/peripatoides.htm

If you really dnt wanna spend money at the events, then only bring whatever is sufficient (i.e. will pay for the basic things you need); although you really know you just want to spend and spend and spend money on things lol!
Velvet worms are crazy lol, when you mentioned them yesterday I did some research on them. How many do you have? What is your tank size?

You could try feeding one of them to one of your Ts... just a thought See what happens...

Now I'm thinking I may get some in the far off future!

nah i'll take loads of money to the shows haha! don't care if i come back with armloads but i don't need to be greedy now...i am quite pleased with everyone i have and want to focus as much as i can on them.
                      newbies are always welcome though.
i have three velvet worms, thanks to the generosity of Martin.

as for feeding a precious velvet worm, a rare creature in the hobby that is VERY difficult to find in its natural habitat to a tarantula that is more than happy with crickets, which are pest animals? um, let's think about that for a minute.
yes, i know you were joking...

Lol! Well half was, but another half of me just can't help wondering what would happen, if anything other than the T. eating it.
Yep, crickets are pest animals, but I think pest is a cruel term to call an animal; imagine some really highly evolved alien calling us pests and feeding them to their pests; I'd be pretty agitated! Lol!!
Man I do not get some of the terminolgy we use; people say 'pretty this and pretty that' as if what they are experiencing is only a small quantity of what it could be, though they are really trying to empaphise the fact that the quantity is huge (which it is) - yet I use it all the time.
Sorry I was just typing everything I was thinking there lol!
Three velvet worms was probably because if the huge order you made off him the other day lol! I need to check out all his creatures soon!

                        Cheers,

well to satisfy your curiosity, i can almost guarantee it would just be a case of a T eating the worm.
by pest, i mean they cause problems. ok, it's hypocritical to say they're pests because they are "inconvenient" to our "society"...but at the same time...tarantula's have to eat, and maybe it's best they're fed creatures that reproduce at a horrifying rate and are a nuisance.
for the record, i do feel guilty about feeding crickets, but it's the food chain, and until something drastic happens, it's either the T that dies of starvation or the cricket that dies quickly.
as for using rare animals...well there's no point, and my personal preference says it'd be rather gutting to lose even one worm.
Martin's a great trader...a nice guy with a great selection of lesser known animals.

Yeah they are pretty much, pests lol! I dnt think it is cruel to feed them to your T., it is the food chain and it is fun for me to watch!
I understand what you say when you talk about your worms; do you have a care sheet I can read up on about it? I'd be interested in knowing how to house and care for it (I think it is quite kl they eat crickets though!)
