    Hello Phil,

The sp. 'Vietnam' part is to differentiate it from other species in the genus, and to keep captive bred populations together for breeding purposes, so that there is no risk of hybridisation.
so far, I have seen different species offered labelled as H. sp. "Vietnam". In most cases Haplopelma vonwirthi, but sometimes also Haplopelma longipes.

    all the best,

Alright then Martin, it is to try and avoid any risk of hybridisation, by keeping populations separate.

As you point out, the problem arises when other species/variants from different imports or whatever are sold as the same unidentified species.

From my understanding its thought that sp.Vietnam/Vonwirthi may end up being a regional variant of minax but we wont really know this until papers are published. These spiders are often sold as H.minax in the USA.

I heard something about that, my vonwirthi looks very similar to a minax, just with striping on the patellas.
It looks like a cross between a minax and an albostriatum!
