  • she wont come down

hi there everyone me again with a new problem. im now the proud owner of a beautiful mexican red knee adult female. i got her on tuesday 17th the problem is she went straight up in the corner of her tank behind a plant thats there and hasn't come down yet. you can normaly tell if someone's been walkabouts during the night there's normaly traces of substrate in the water dish but it's spotless plus everytime i check on her she's in the exact same place. should i just leave her to settle in her own time or try enticing her down somehow.

Hi Vincent, glad to see you've got a new addition, I'd leave her where she is, it's all strange to her, as long as the substrates not wet, as they don't usually like that, try her with some food and leave her to settle in. What sort of size is she?, what about a pic

hi linda the substrates nice and dry for her and she's about five and a half inches tip to toe might be a little bigger. i tried to send photo's before but couldn't work out how to do it. my son will be home from his cruise work soon so he'll be able to heip me with this. as soon as i can i'll put some photo's of the gang on here. by the way if she dont take the cricket for 24 hours should i take it out or leave it for an extra day. cheers linda.

Hi Vincent, there's nowt so queer as the B. Smithi, as you probably know by now. The cricket won't do any harm as long as it's alive, or take it out and try her every other day. I've tried a few times to put pics on, but I think they need re-sizeing, not worked that one out yet.

Contrary to a lot of things we read, Brachys do like to climb and sit on the side of the tank, I've heard of Grammostolas doing the same. If you give her enough substrate and help her to start off, she'll also dig a burrow as they do in the wild. Don't worry.

I agree. Mine tends to spend equal amounts of time on the side (of the tank and low down) and on the substrate. Occasionally she will climb much higher and sit like a arboreal on the plastic plant I have attached to the top of the tank.
                Gloria my little Brachypelma smithi.
