My old house had "a few" cricket escapees - Could never find them though! When we moved house (poor buggers who moved in there) I couldn't sleep for a week as I'd got so used to the noise. I harldy use crickets now, relying on my cockroach colonies and maggots from the tackle shop. Thankfully all the inverts are in the "shed", otherwise I think my Mother would flip...

Since this event happened the other day (Saying they can't get out of the animal room) I've caught one in the bathroom one in the living room and one woke the misses up right on the floor next to her side of the bed LOL!

You know you jinxed it by saying that don't you? I know a few of my roaches escaped along the way, but they're all well away from the house... I hope.

After that it's damage control - try and scoop up as many as possible while preventing the fastest movers from reaching any kind of cover. Then wait a few days for the inevitable chirping from behind the fridge, under the microwave etc.
that sums it up for me, haha!
the other week i managed to tip a tub of cricketsover in our lounge (good thing, more empty floor space than my room, which is a mess!) and they went off everywhere!
i got as many as i could, but thankfully i have very tolerant housemates...some guests came round with little kids, and apparently after i went out they were going mental finding crickets for me! very helpful

also, we have a cat that things crickets are her personal toys, so that's good too!

only time my housemates get annoyed is if one is singing loudly outside my room...3 in the morning last weekend one housemate came down and asked if i could catch one keeping him up, turns out it'd gone under the carpet on a stair! thankfully the carpet came up there easily so i was able to fetch it eventually.

losing crickets is far too easily done!

Hi Ian, I know this may sound daft but how is your wife with small, descreet webs. If she's ok see if you can get some cupboard spiders (S. grossa) and let them out in the house. they live ok in UK conditions, they'll clear the problem and house spiders seem to be afraid of them (even though at their largest they only get to about an inch leg span!) just a thought, they worked for me ok

That sounds like an interesting idea. I don't think the misses would have the same views tho lol. Out of interest, where would you get hold of them?

I keep trying to get rid of them! I've got a free range "colony" living in my bug-shed. No matter how many I throw out the door they keep coming back..

Apparently they're quite common down in the south of the UK, but not so many the further north you get.

Any chance of sending me a few? I've just moved so the last colony's gone. Wouldn't mind some more though!
