  • Rescued Tarantulas in need of homes...

    Hi All,

Nice to meet you all. My Name is Steve. I am a volunteer contacting you on behalf of Sue who is the founder of South Essex Wildlife Hospital, a registered veterinary charity that deals with sick, injured and orphaned wildlife.

One of our policies is that we will not turn any animal away if it is in need of somewhere immediate to stay and the other option is euthanasia, with a view to seeking a suitable permanent home ASAP. As a result we recieve many domestic and exotic animals in need of knowledgeable, caring, permanent homes.

Over Christmas we recieved just under 30 tarantulas that are urgently in need of new homes. Sue is very arachnophobic (and i'm not to enamoured to be honest) but our policy stands, we don't turn anything away. They look to be in good shape but need to be suitably re-homed soon so Sue can sleep at night again without the nightmares. I always seek out communities of people who know their stuff when re-homing so here I am.

I have a list of the species (along with a couple of unlabelled mystery sp.) but before I get started I thought as I am brand new I would check that a) this is the correct place on the forum to be discussing this and b) I am not breaking any other rules I may have missed. Once I get the OK or am redirected to the suitable area I will elaborate.

    Cheers,
    Steve

I have sent you a private message in regards to potentially helping to rehome the spiders in your collection.

It really is a shame that so many tarantulas are being abandoned.

This part of the forum is just fine, and you're not breaking any rules, so please go ahead.

It may also be worth your while contacting one of the BTS committee members

              Hi All,

I have had a great response via PM's so here is the list of species we have.
I am going by the labels on the enclosures they arrived in so they may not be 100% but they look accurate as I have done some checking online. Where i have written x2 they are not housed together (don't worry), it just means we have 2. They are almost all adult, or near adults apart from the violets which are quite small.

              The labels read -
              Mexican Fire Leg
              Indian Violet (x2)
              Koh Samui
              Chile Fire
              Red Chile Rose
Cobalt Blue (this little devil is the fiestiest one!)
              Pink Zebra
              Mexican Red Knee (x2)
              Pink Toe
              Mexican Red Rump
              Green Bottle Blue
              Brazilian Salmon Pink
              Curly Haired
              Thailand Zebra
Trinidad Chevron - this one is causing lots of distress as it looks evil
              Brazilian White Knee
              Pink Toe
              Tiger Rump
              Bolivian White Knee (x2)
About 5 x mystery un-named spiders in boxes.
Emporer Scorpions (x2) not spiders but also need homes

We do not charge for adoptions, BUT we do ask for a reasonable donation. Our running costs are about £2000 a week to keep the hospital going. People always ask what sort of donation is reasonable so I suppose about a tenner, perhaps more if the animal is worth much more. If you feel able to donate more that's fantastic and all the money goes directly back in the running of the Hospital which is a registered non-profit Charity. What is most important is that they go to permanent, knowledgable homes. You can see a bit more about the work we do on our website.

I will check the thread and pm's again about 6pmish this evening from the hospital and will start arranging for pick ups etc...

Cheers All and thanks for all your help. Steve

                  Right People,

I am at the Hospital now. Having just administered to their needs I am very keen to move them on as to say I am not keen on their continued presence is an understatement (and I keep a very large collection of lizards, snakes and inverts so I'm not generally squeamish).

Our telephone number is 01375 893893.

We are located just down the A13 from Lakeside shopping Centre in Orsett, Essex. We will give specific once we know people are on their way as the Hospital is on private property and we can't have anyone turning up whenever they want.

The animals will be allocated on a first come basis to suitable homes.

Give us a ring with questions and to arrange to come and pick up spideys.

Well i went and picked up my T's today ended up with a few more than first thought so apologies if i have 1 some1 else wanted but i was like a child in a toy shop.
So between me and my brother we ended up with 13 T's 6 of which are mine.
A MM brachypelma Vagans to go with my M Female of the same which molted a week or so ago.
I also got a juvenile brachypelma Smithi about 2" in size
and wot it says on the tub is a Mexican Fire leg again a juvenile at about 2" and we took both of the Indian Violet's (Chilobrachys fimbriatus) which are about 1" in size at most i also had 1 of the mystery spiders which is about 1 1/2" in size a very nice looking spider so had to have it lol.
The final spider i got is the best find for me i think which is as named on the tub a Bolivian White Knee it is a very fat looking T which looks like may be coming up for a molt its about 4-5" in size and is supposed to be a female so lets hope so.
The others my brother took which include the chevron, cobalt blue, greenbottle blue the other indian violet and bolivian white the red chile rose and a mystery small male i think thats it i will start a thread with pics to get a more postive ID on a few
I will add pictures of all we have rescued and add to this thread soon and i must thank Sue for the oppurtunity to have these spiders and say that they are all very healthy T's so are being well looked after even if they were not overly welcome guests lol.
                            Thanks Again
                            Aaron
