Paul, you know my thoughts on handling as Ive explained that in a variety of forums. Personally I don't handle, nor advocate it. However, the OP is trying to get over his fear of tarantula and is persuing that.
Johns first step was to attend the BTS in May where Chris from Invicta helped explain about tarantula. Since then Ive had lots of text convo's with him via our mobiles, he has purchased a couple of slings and attended last week's Invicta Arachnid Club. The conversation continues via mobile and in AP forum.

Hopefully that explains the background and hopefully you also accept the direction provided by Mark.

Actually I do not know your thoughts on handling Peter.
Your argument is like me saying,I handle hahni because I am afraid of it and so by doing so,it will get me over my fear of such a dangerous Spider.
You can't advocate handling just when it suits your argument.

Paul i can see the way you want this thread to go.... it's not happening !!!!

After Peter explains the situation and Mark explains that the issue has been "discussed to death" many many times.... why push for an argument regarding the subject again.

NO more posts on the handling topic, i won't close the thread with respect to Johns' original question and the sensible answers already recieved.

I WILL remove any posts that are not relevant to the original topic.

        Thats it...end of story...FULL STOP !!!!

Admin message: Colin is correct and it stops right now.

So apart from the molt that can change a personality and day to day moods and different circumstances all these play a part in a t's life... God what a life to lead lol.
