To me, a pokie is a pokie as they are all the same, they all hide and you never see 'em.

Been there and done that. i would rather keep empty snail shells than pokies cos I'll see them more.

As i have always said John, all spiders behave differently ... you could research the worlds most docile species and when you buy one ... it's a crazy bitey thing.

As an aside (and to re-iterate the behaviour differences using Peters findings above) some of our pokies are quite active, they'll roam around in the daytime and actively sunbath, the others hide away.

As far as the venom toxicity goes i have a fact based theory that could be relevant (and if i'm lucky people will read this and in 12 months time it'll be taken as gospel i could be right up there with the man who invented DKS .. what a thrill!!! )

If you think what predators are around in the natural area the spider resides then you'll tend to find a corrolation in what effects what the most.... and i'll put it forward that it's all down to defence.
New World Terrestrial spiders have a bite that "hurts" but doesn't have the venom toxicity "kick" for humans ... rodents, felines and canines get a more severe effect ... this i assume is because the standerd predators for these spiders would be the three i mention.
With pokies, the area they live in has a large selection of primate species that would take a spider for a snack, hence their bite has a more severe defensive effect on monkeys/apes etc, and so affects humans more (as we're technically primates).
Don't forget to learn what you can, when you can, where you can.

Makes sense that Colin! Its great to have peoples theorys to take into consideration. I take it your not a creationist then lol. It is true we are technically animals and are related to apes. It makes sense that we would be more sensitive to a Tarantulas venom if that spider has developed defenses against the very predators that would eat it i.e monkeys. An interesting theory and worth investigating...

My P.regalis is out in the day all the time but shys away when it feels im near. Must be my breath...

          David Attenborough:
‘It seems to me that the issue of conservation of the natural world is something that can unite humanity if people know enough about it. Persuade them to change the way in which they behave, to change the view that gross materialism and the search for material wealth is not the only thing in life.’

It was on tv this week with a doctor saying some babies are born with tales that our ancestors had and we now only have a groove ( between our butt checks ) where the tale used to be and we call it the tip of the spine..
Yeah I know I shock my self at times with what I learn pmsl

If it fits and you can just put one container in another and let it re-home itself then remove the old one when you are ready.

Well he/she came at 11.15 and took four minutes from film tub to new home,
It shot out the tissue like a rocket lol I had the tissue held by tongs and used my artist brush to open it and then..
Out it came running over the tissue and then on the bark in it's home then stopped and went in to hiding lol..
But over all a very nice little thing

hope you have fun with it John

And Talha, those subfusca you have are only tiny, I wouldn't advise handling them especially when they've grown on a bit. The mum is very calm but there's no guarantee she has passed her temperament on to her offspring! She always moves slowly and has never once shown any signs of defensiveness or speed but I still wouldn't let her sit on my hand.

It has webbed the groove I made in the cork bark.. Just hope the small crickets are not too big for it to eat ..
I don't use micro as I can't catch em lol..

Mine were on sml/med right from the start. It's funny watching a little spider carrying round a cricket almost as big as itself. They look so proud lol

the regalis is 2cm long and the crickets are near the same!
So I got small locust that some are 1cm long.
So maybe these will do ? or I'll have to find away to feed it pre killed ... that's not easy as it's not got enough web to put prey on to..
Also if I spray the container to give it water do I spray at it or on the cork it's hiding on?.
( can't wait for it to get bigger it will be much easier lol )
