Is Martin at the lectures this year Mark?
Yes Colin TV's very own Martin Nicholas will be at the lectures, he has too or the rest of the committee will have to dish out yet more torture for no attendance.
Cheers

Great link, great films.
But I have a few questions. For you or martin, were any of these in the film taken and studied? Were they able to get them out of the burrow to photograph if so are there any we can see? Size what was the size of these? were they compaired to any type specimen's?
And last but most important at least to me. Are you and martin claiming this is 100% new specie? Yes or No
I am just asking no rudeness meant or intended.

Thanks for the clip Mark, I had seen it on Animal Planet or Discovery, nice to know that that's Martin ( I can tell people I know him next time it pops on the telly LOL). So is that supposed to be the same species as Craig has?
Off topic here, on his swimming Pink-toe clip, I was photographing my Avic purpurea at my water feature one day when it did exactly that. First it walked UNDER the heavily flowing waterfall bit and then swam across to the other side of the feature!

wasn't there a longer clip, though perhaps audio only, about the chicken spider finding? i think that went into greater depth about what was seen.
very cool clips anyway! i want a cave tarantula!Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars... Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

Yes there was and it was linked from this site, however it has moved, and you would need to search for spiderman on the BBC web site.

Great link, great films.
This species was studied in an US University (her name escapes me at the moment) I believe mainly to do with its symbiotic life with a narrow mouthed frog. But I have a few questions. For you or martin, were any of these in the film taken and studied?
Yes they are posted on this forum under tarantulas in the wild pixWere they able to get them out of the burrow to photograph if so are there any we can see?
I have seen Martins personal photographs and it had a good 9 inch spanSize what was the size of these?
A dead preserved specimen was examined by Andrew Smith and compared with all current know Pamphobeteus specimens at the BNHM. (That dead specimen was legally removed with permits from said US University)were they compaired to any type specimen's?
No I am not claiming anything! I am sure Martin isn't either, the facts are thus, it was examined and did not match P, antinous and more work has yet to carried out on this species, no such claims are being made by either of us that its 100% new.And last but most important at least to me. Are you and martin claiming this is 100% new specie? Yes or No
The debate over this tarantulas validity as a new species will be decided by those working on its taxonomy. Not by myself or Martin, no amount of claims or counter claims will speed this up.
"Martin or myself have no connection to the apparent trade in this tarantula, which due to the almost impossibility of legal live export would of course be illegal."
I was just merely wished to share the images and film, you have to remember Martin first seen these in 1997 and this is a rather old story and that's all it is, a story! With a connection to a large black theraphosid.
One with an extraordinary life style....
None taken... as one of Martins long term old friends I can tell you he would not be offended either. Also this is an old story and all those question have been asked many times before. Check out various threads on this forum and also the Martins online chat transcript about this subject.I am just asking no rudeness meant or intended.
I will try and collate the links to these later.

Mark

That's well weird
http://www.martinnicholas.tv/video.html works fine here
Or do you mean the page shows but not the vids, the vids are flash so the latest player is needed.

Thanks mark I appreciate the reply. I was under the impression you posted the link to the vids to show proof of the "Chicken Spider" but I understand you post better now. Was the largest of these spiders seen only 9"? .Quite small for a "Chicken Spider" yea?Originally posted by Mark Pennell View PostThanks

It could seem that way, but unfortunately I have been around in this hobby far to long - 26 years I think now....
[quote=Toran Tanner;23187]Like I said this is an old story and certainly nothing new to myself I have known about this for over 10 years. Was the largest of these spiders seen only 9"? .Quite small for a "Chicken Spider" yea?

They are a large spider and stocky too and I am sure they get very big 10 inches plus, but I'll confirm this with Mart.
"spiderhunter: K, the largest C.S. we pinned down had a legspan of 10.7" and this was not exceptional"
I only just posted the videos as I had finished uploading them to Martin's TV promotional site and thought that those who had not seen the communal living could understand what the fuss is about, as there was yet another thread regarding this species.
I look forward to reading about your experiment and best of luck with this.
read this http://thebts.co.uk/chat_martin_nicholas.htm Cheers for now.
