I'm have pair of E sp red but males still a juvie at mo so will have to wait till he matures but Lee has some mature males do if I get some more funds together I may grab one to start early also waiting for males to mature for the following future projects E sp blue, G Pulchras (hopefully next molt he's big!) C ritae, have possible pair of A purpereas, B smithi, GBB and tiger rump all slings and juvies so may be a while and have 2 P mettalica slings on the way do hoping for a male to pair with my female will try and part with the spare though may be difficult as they are soo stunning!
Will Keep you posted on the progress but having to wait for males to mature may be a while yet, if I manage to get a male (E sp red) From Lee early and are successful i promise to stick your name on a few Lee
does anyone grow them to sell as juveniles or at least large slings?? all slings ive seen are tiny and worry me im trying be brave with 4 chaco golden knee that ive ordered just hope i can keep them alive im happy with them from 50p size and up they just scare me a olittle when there small incase i screw up and lose them
Asmaa ive got about 8 Avic slings coming, but same as you all but 1 sling has survived to Juvie so was a bit uncertain whether to try more, sadly the species I wanted the most were only available as slings so took the plunge and grabbed a few others to try again
As for the Chaco's they are pretty much bulletproof bought my last one from sling and has grown into a nice healthy Juvie about 2.5 inches think it may be a male so ordered another in hope of gettting a female, most slings are quite hardy its only really the Avics that I find more sensitive but believe I may have the right formula this time around plenty of ventilation and a very light misting!
Good luck with the Chaco's they grow into big pretty T's the yellow striping is fantastic and gets brighter as they grow!
As for Juvie Avics they are about I pciked up a nice Grown on A Geroldi and a juvie A sp "suriname" in local pet shop and Lee normally has Juvie and SA/A A sp "guyana" and sometimes others managed to pick up a Juvie A sp "Kwitara" off him so just really a case of looking around
If i can get all 4 A Purpereas to Juvie and can sex a pair I may be able to part with the spares, though these are one of my favourite species so I cant guarantee but if I can I will let you know If not im looking to breed and keep a load back to carry on breeding so can hold some back for you if you like but be warned this will be some time off

I have plenty time hubby thinks im crazy buying 4 chaco but i figured with the peru purple dying i wasnt taking chance im hoping to get them to adult and maybe start breeding with them but thats many many years from now when i learn how to get a bulletproof method for keeping slings alive i adore them as well the colours the size im hoping to get a nice collection of all the more docile species then build onto some more advanced ones when my kids leave home and i can have a bug room trouble is i like too many and the pink toes are just so cute and fluffy they get sort of addictive having said that my fireleg just been sexed as female makes me think ooo maybe it will need a male in a couple years. no one warned me this gets to be a very addictive hobby with endless possibilties
That's how I started getting the more calmer ones and slowly moving on to some more advanced have got a few pokies and a P Irminia on the way but I still prefer the new world terrestrials Avics are great too but as you say there are so many to choose from another excuse for buying a few due to not being able to decide on just one happened with my first was torn between a B smithi and a N chromatus so got both lol
my 4 chaco golden knee slings arrived today totally gorgeaus and tiny will need order some pinhead crickets but have read i can put a dead locust in or pull a leg off of one and feed that to them does this work or will they only eat live items??
next on list to get a b smithi because what person with Ts doesnt need one of them and well while im ordering that if TSS still has when i get money i might as well add a couple others to the order purely to save on future postage costs you understand but i think a sub adult guyana pink toe and maybe a couple fireleg slings and GBB slings purely to see if i can get a male fireleg to go with my female and an opposite to what ever mine is and they look so pretty lol
Pin head crickets should be fine, but if your struggling to get them or cant find any small enough get the smallest one you can find and just crush its head then put it in the tank, you can wriggle it to get the t's attention but can just be left for the T to find, not so sure on just gien in a leg though, though my mantis do love to eat a leg or too lol
If your after males, Lee has juvenile GBB and I think he may still have a few firelegs if you ask him for males he'll try and send them thats how i got my male juvie GBB
I have a sub adult fireleg thats turned out to be male so once I have room will be looking for either a female or possibly send him out on a 50/50 loan if i havent already sold him that is, A family friend has expressed some interest in Him and a few others
i ordered small locust and i think livefood do pinhead just i hadnt realised how small these new slings are i keep forgetting there measured leg to leg and i think in body length this i think may help me remember and monday ill order pinhead size just wanted to try feed them incase there hungry dont suppose it hurt much if they dont eat but if the weather stays so cold and crappy livefood might suspend deliveries then ill need an alternate method
my fireleg was 3inch give or take a little last molt so must be about 3.5 now still juvenile?? or sub adult either way im in no rush breeding is something for a few more years down the line when i get more experience with slings and keeping them alive etc then i will do alot of reading my GBB is maybe2-cm leg span so only a baby yet think its ready to molt tho its been off food for a couple weeks and now gone in a burrow its made
it was a bad idea telling me lee has firelegs i am way too tempted and my bank has said in a not very nice way do i not understand the meaning of overdraft limit they really should have a few spider keepers working there so they would understand the need for more funds
Your save for now Lee's out of juvie fire legs at mo think he only has slings left
As for looking after slings majority are pretty easy to raise only a few are more sensitive like avics and I think the blue fangs are as well only other sling I lost was my GBB and that was a bad molt he stopped eating for 3 months then tried molting standing up and got stuck no idea why have another GBB that appears male and waiting on another sling to arrive from my last huge order just saw he added some chile beatiful slings and am gutted I can't even afford the £4 he's asking for so hoping he still has some left when I get paid
i have 4 chaco golden knee slings safe as some my order contained some really tiny crix so offered those a peru purple again and if this dies forget it ill buy a juvenile or adult and the GBB which is bar far the biggest of them all just hoping it survives im trying to see how i do with slings and growing them on mostly because at some point in time id like to try breeding spiders but figure if i cant keep slings alive im set for a huge fail so i must be brave and try and see how i go also rather interested to watch them grow and mature
my stop at 12 for now has hit a slight snag i have to buy a mexican red knee because TSS has only a bigger size left they sold out of the smaller ones and i can only find adult after that or slings which id rather not risk with them being cost so i really should buy one soon and if im ordering one well i might as well order a couple other spiders as well and it costing me nowt because hubby is giving me £100 for spiders and set ups as a valentines/anniversary present it would be rude to not buy them when he thought about what id want so carefully lol

There isnt exactly a lot of juicy meat on a locust leg
I regularly feed slings with roaches upto twice their size, all i do is crush the roaches head and the sling has a happy meal.
There is no reason why you can do the same with a cricket and get the same results.
ps. I've lost more slings over the years to pinhead crickets than to anything else. . . horrible things.

Really! wow i know crickets are mean have lost a few mantids thanks to the food eating the predator
Have used them with all my slings so far without problems may have to be a bit more carefull in future, thought they were able to overpower them
Thanks for that Peter, always learn something new from you, and as im sure you've seen, have quoted your advise a few times will be trying out your method on raising Avic Slings as soon as they arrive. Ill let you know how well I get on, really hope it works for me really cant wait to raise my Purpereas amongst others ive obtained
